What
is IDS (Ignition Development System)?
|
|
|
Power Arc IDS is a software/hardware based ignition development
system which can be used to create custom ignition systems for
1, 2, H-D, 3, 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines.* The system uses a
precision optical pickup and a stainless steel rotor. The same
rotor may be used for all engine types and can be mounted on the
crankshaft or the camshaft. A wide variety of tachometers may be
used 1, 2, H-D, 4, 6 and 8 cylinder tachometers can be used
regardless of the engine type the ignition is configured for.
High voltage distribution can be done by a distributor cap or it
can be distributorless (coil based). There are two
configurable input sensors. Each
sensor state creates a separate adjustable ignition advance
curve and is graphically displayed. Each sensor state can
have unique Rev. Limit and RPM switch values. Ignition
curves can be copied and pasted between sensor states. There can
be up to 3 sparks per compression stroke. Each spark's
timing can be independently adjusted by dragging points on the
graph. The coils saturation or the time the coil primary is
energized can also be controlled. The number of engine starts is
recorded as well as the number of times the engine
achieves a maximum user determined RPM. Ignition advance curves can be
directly downloaded from the computer into the
VP-4, VP-2 and CP-2 ignition modules.
C-1 and C-2 ignition
modules require a pin bed programmer.
Features include:
|
|
●
Ignition can be programmed for virtually any engine type or
configuration. |
|
● The same
encoder wheel may be used for all engine types
and can be mounted on the crankshaft or camshaft. |
|
●
High voltage
distribution can be done by a distributor cap or it can be distributorless
(coil based). |
|
●
There are two configurable input sensors
than can be either analog or digital. |

|
●
The Rev. limit can have different values for each
sensor state. |
|
●
The number of curve transitions (nodes) is adjustable from
2-10. |
|
●
The coils saturation or
the time the coil primary is energized can be controlled. |
|
●
Virtually
any tachometer can be used on any engine. |
|
●
A notes section provides a place
for custom information about each available sensor state.
|
|
●
The number of engine starts is recorded. |
|
●
The number of times an engine exceeds a maximum user determined RPM is
recorded. |
|
●
The
Rev. limit value can be programmed independently from the rest of the
curve (Curve file is not required). |
|
●
A
serial number can be stored and read back in from the module. |
|
●
Ignition curves
can be directly programmed in the the VP-2, VP-4 & CP-2 ignitions via a PLC
cable.
|
|
●
Ignition
curves can be programmed into C-1 & C-2 ignitions via a
pin bed programmer.
|
|
●
Custom
cylinder angles can be easily developed and integrated into the IDS
interface. |
|
●
Customized ignitions with your label can be
manufactured. See the development
section for more information.
