Generic Ignition Installation:

If you received an Owner's Manual with your ignition please consult it. These are generic installation instructions. Visit www.powerarc.com for the most current versions of installation manuals.

1) Mount Ignition module or distributor (V Series). Consult the wiring diagram for your particular model and application to determine the firing order of coils. Wire the ignition according to the diagram connecting the power wires, sensors, tachometer etc. (Do not connect the coils at this time). Do not have power applied to the ignition when wiring. Specific instructions are available for many models and engines. Visit www.powerarc.com for the most current versions of installation manuals.

2) Center the ignition or optical pickup so it is directly inline with the adapter or the shaft of the cam, crank or distributor.  Center the Optical Encoder wheel on the distributor shaft/adapter centered on the step.  Using a screw/bolt and the supplied encoder washer finger tighten the screw/bolt making sure the encoder washer is facing towards the optical encoder wheel.

3) The Optical Encoder/Rotor must be centered within the optical pickup. Rotate the engine to TDC compression stroke of #1 cylinder (secure engine crank to avoid rotation). With power on to the ignition module (make sure the coils are disconnected) rotate the optical encoder wheel through the optical pickup opposite the direction of the engine rotation until the TDC LED light on the module lights. Tighten the screw to 9-12 lbs. of torque securing the optical encoder wheel in the TDC position. The TDC light should only light one time as it is being passed through the optical trigger.

3) Connect the coils and start the engine.

Precautions:

Use only resistor spark plug wires and resistor plugs.  Do not use spiral wound wires.
A minimum of 2000 ohms of resistance is required in each plug wire.
If a resistor plug wire is less than 2000 ohms use a resistor plug cap or boot for short wires.
Due to the high energy and multi-spark capability cross firing is a real concern. Never route wires closer than 1" from each other.
Use separators on the plug wires and do not allow the wires to touch each other.
Compact ignitions come in negative and positive ground versions use the appropriate version.
Do not have power applied to the coils during static timing.
Do not connect any coil output to +6 or +12V.  Harley users do not connect white coil wire to positive. The positive wire is red.
Do not apply power to the module unless the optical pickup plate is connected.
The trigger optics are sensitive to light make sure to shield them from external light sources. Replace any covers or lids.
